In November 2020, JTI PRIDE was recognized for its contribution to furthering LGBT+ Inclusion by the Global Diversity List (GDL). As one of 10 winners (including Employee Resource Groups from Disney, JP Morgan and Vodaphone) it is truly a wonderful achievement, especially given that PRIDE was only launched in February 2020.
The GDL was founded in 2016 to celebrate success in leading and enhancing diversity and inclusion efforts. As an employee-led volunteer network, PRIDE is uniquely positioned to drive real and meaningful change within JTI. This is especially potent in a year in which inequalities and social justice have been thrust firmly into the spotlight. Against the backdrop of a global pandemic, PRIDE campaigned, collaborated and committed to speaking up for the LGBT+ community. From virtual celebrations during Pride Month, to ongoing peer-to-peer initiatives and ally education, the pace and breadth of activities undertaken by Pride have been remarkable, something the GDL recognizes.
But there is still much to be done. The small but significant first steps PRIDE has taken in year one will become the foundation for a targeted effort in year two. From expanding local ERG chapters to supporting JTI with global policy efforts, PRIDE is excited to continue on the journey to a fair and equal JTI.
