Not everyone is familiar with the term littering, and yet, according to the results of a survey conducted by the environmental association Save the Planet, 9 out of 10 people consider it to be a very serious problem. Littering is the act of abandoning small pieces of garbage in the environment, a phenomenon that is growing and which has many enormous consequences on environmental pollution, urban decor, and, naturally, the quality of life of residents.
This is why JTI Italia and Save the Planet have joined forces to launch #iolabuttolì, a communications campaign under the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment, which is aimed at raising awareness among citizens about proper waste disposal.
A problem which, according to the majority of those surveyed, originates with a lack of care regarding the ecological and environmental consequences of small daily gestures like, for instance, the dispersal of plastic bottles, food packaging, cigarette butts, and chewing gum.
Civic education and awareness on responsible behaviours are, according to 50% of respondents, the most effective solution, while only 3% believe that fines would put an end to the problem.
In order to create awareness on the topic of littering and to hold individuals responsible for the consequences of their daily actions, JTI Italia and Save the Planet have mobilized their common commitment to environmental sustainability.
A commitment in which JTI has been invested in for years in Italy and around the world, rooted in the belief that the future of our territory depends on the adoption of good environmental sustainability practices: from investments in the tobacco industry, to the creation of sustainable work spaces and encouraging ethically proper behaviour on the part of employees and citizens. All the way to the international objectives which the entire group has established for the long term and which are in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
