Our View towards Tobacco Control Efforts

Our View towards Tobacco Control Efforts

Our long-term business growth and success depend on being a responsible member of all the communities we operate in. We stand with a clear view that tobacco products carry risks to health. Therefore, we understand that appropriate and proportionate regulations of the tobacco sector are both necessary and right, including the regulation that aims to reduce underage smoking prevalence.

Government Regulation No. 109 of 2012 regarding Control of Materials That Contain Addictive Substances in Tobacco Products in the Interests of Health (GR 109/2012) is one of the key requirements of the tobacco industry in Indonesia. During the last four years, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a substantial decline in underage smoking prevalence, from 9.65% in 2018 to 3.69% in 2021. From this data, we have a strong reason to believe that the existing regulation has appropriately addressed the tobacco consumption issues in the country.

JTI believes that minors should not smoke, and should not have the access to tobacco products. This principle is central to our Code of Conduct, our marketing principles, our operational policies, and the way we do business.
