Cigarettes
Rolling Tobacco
Heated Tobacco
Snus
Cigars

Types of cigarettes

Whether we’re producing cigarettes for one of our nine flagship brands or one of the many locally popular varieties we make; every individual cigarette ingredient is as responsibly sourced and meticulously put together as the next.

We use three types of tobacco

Each is grown and cured for us by thousands of farmers around the world, sold in many different grades. We sample tobacco leaf continuously in our quest to achieve the consistent quality and taste our brands are known for.

Our three tobacco types include: Virginia, Burley, and Oriental…

We use three varieties of tobacco
Virginia
Flue-cured in a barn heated by pipes, Virginia tobacco takes its name from the American state famous for its bright-leaf tobacco curing.
We use three varieties of tobacco
Burley
A light tobacco that is cured by air over a number of weeks and is generally lower in sugar than other varieties.
We use three varieties of tobacco
Oriental
Sun-cured, highly aromatic and small of leaf – you might better know this variety by its common name, Turkish tobacco.

The perfect blend of quality and consistency

Tobacco blending is a skillful process that starts with buying and combining exactly the right mix of grades – getting that right is the only way to achieve the particular taste and quality our cigarette brands are known for.

The tobacco itself is treated and other ingredients, such as flavors and humectants, are also added to materialize the ideal sensory experience. The use and quality of flavorings may also vary according to regional preferences.

Rolling tobacco

Fine-cut tobacco packed in loose-form is known as rolling tobacco. It’s used for both RYO ‘roll-your-own’ cigarettes (made using rolling papers) and MYO ‘make-your-own’ cigarettes (made by filling a filter tube with cut tobacco). It’s arguably the most versatile of all our traditional tobacco products.

Why choose rolling tobacco?

Rolling tobacco was once considered a lower quality product. Today it’s made to the same considered, high standard as cigarettes. The quality of fine-cut tobacco is sustained by essential additives such as humectants.

Rolling tobacco 3
Tailor-made smoking
It’s not just the amount of tobacco in ‘roll-your-owns’ that smokers control. Smokers can also alter the type of cigarette paper and filters they use.
Rolling tobacco 3
Distinctive taste
Our rolling tobacco brands each have unique flavor and aroma characteristics. Often these are more reflective of the actual leaf than many cigarettes.
Rolling tobacco 3
Unique texture
Fine-cut rolling tobacco is designed to be easy to handle and has very different burning characteristics to, for example, pipe-smoking tobacco.

Rolling Tobacco brands

Our rolling tobacco brands include the popular Amber Leaf and Old Holborn brands

Amber Leaf Tobacco

Amber Leaf is a finely crafted Premium Virginia tobacco that offers a smooth taste to mirror today’s smokers demands.

Old Holborn Tobacco

Old Holborn is a premium brand renowned for its distinctive Virginia tobacco taste. It takes its name from the London street on which its creator Richard Lloyd first began experimenting with tobacco in 1785.

Reduced-Risk Products

We’re dedicated to innovating new products, to add even more choice alongside our traditional tobacco offerings

Cigars

We sell high quality cigars to over 20 markets around the world, and implement continuous improvements to the products we offer our discerning cigar smokers

Complex production results in a considered product

Cigars 3
Cigar tobacco involves a complex and precise fermentation process that can take anything from a few weeks to several years. The fermentation influences both the taste and scent of the final cigar.
Cigars 3
Cigars are also wrapped in tobacco leaf rather than paper – the less predictable nature of this organic material means ultra-specific processing to maintain taste and crumble-free qualities.
Cigars 3
Crumbling is a problem that can occur at any stage of production; any time the cigar gets too dry. To counter this, we carefully retain moisture during shipping, storage and delivery.

Snus

Snus is a tobacco product that, instead of being smoked, is placed in the mouth under the lip to allow flavors to disperse slowly.

Snus

Made from expertly-blended tobaccos, pure water, salt and essential oils, the Nordic Snus brands balance heritage and innovation to bring consumers a unique range of products.

Traditionally used in Scandinavia, JTI produces authentic snus in a dedicated factory in Sweden through the wholly-owned subsidiary Nordic Snus.

A high-tech factory that relies on traditional Swedish know-how, our site at Vårgårda produces both loose and pouched snus.
